Magazines On The Horizon!

'According to this morning’s Wall Street Journal, there may just be a bright spot on the horizon for magazines after all.

Apparently advertisers went on a bit of a spending spree in the last quarter of 2009 and it’s happily carrying over into 2010, even in the newspaper sector which was suffering even more terribly than the glossies. And if March issues are any indication, the freefall may just be over.

Bill Wackerman, publisher of Glamour, says that they expect their numbers to be up 6-7% from that same issue last year. (March is always a major spending month for fashion and retail advertisers.) And Vogue’s Tom Florio says that the March, April, and May issues are “tracking up at this time…but it is too soon to call.”

Here’s to hoping the media and magazine bloodbath is nearing an end and that 2010 brings some better days for us all. Sounds like we’re off to a better start than 2009, which we’re pretty sure everyone would rather forget.'-Courtesy of Fashionista

'Christina Aguilera's new album, Bionic, will be released in March, but don't expect the same ol' Xtina.

Although she's usually known for her piercing high notes, she showing off her softer side on an album that "is about the future." The hawt momma credits her son Max for "motivating me to want to play and have fun."

The new singing style is due to exploring new parts of herself - and not in a slutty way!"Maybe I've been afraid to do in the past, to allow myself to go to a place of 'less singing,'" said Christina. "I'm more vulnerable and more strong at the same time."

Her first single, Glam, has been described as "a poppy, hip-hop inflected throwback to Madonna's Vogue." Not to mention Lullaby, a collaboration with Sia.

Tricky Stewart called the album "one of her best bodies of work."

"I know that there's a lot of other cool features, like I know that she has Santigold and Flo Rida on there," he continued. "She's mixing it up again. She's singing R&B again, she's doing pop. She's doing it all, but she's found a way to make it all meet in the middle because she's so many different things."

And she got the chance to write with M.I.A., Ladytron, Dr. Luke, Bravery frontman Sam Endicott, Switch and Goldfrapp.' -P.H

Released 2 years ago. Christina's remix of her #1 tune 'Beautiful' is an outstanding and hopeful glimpse into the sounds that may appear on BIONIC!

A Portrait of Dorian Gray by Karl Lagerfeld

With our society’s obsession with beauty and plastic surgery, Oscar Wilde’s famous novel The Picture of Dorian Gray resonates more than ever. Hollywood made THREE movies about it, the latest was released in 2009. A few years ago, Karl Lagerfeld published A Portrait of Dorian Gray, a photography book presenting his take on the iconic novel in the context of fashion and glamour.

I Want Your Barbie

Lady Gaga had quite the year — the fashion, music and entertainment worlds just could not get enough of her in ‘09. Her popularity certainly hasn’t dwindled with the start of a new year. In fact, it’s gone to the dolls! (And it was only a matter of time, really.)

The good people at Refinery29 point us to this genius discovery. Veik, a Beijing-based designer who loves to play with dolls, has recreated some of his favorite Gaga looks in mini form.

He made the bunny ears, the hair bow, the Kermit coat and even the Alexander McQueen S/S10 shoes. And the designs are spot on — we’re just so glad to see he did her (well, the clothes actually) some justice.

We only wish we had clothes like these to play with when we were growing up. -Courtesy of Fashionista
